4 Library Blogs; 2007 to 2017

Last Blog Post!

We’ve published four blogs since 2007 at Palm Beach State College Library-Lake Worth campus!  These posts covered instructional events, lib guides, library history, college history & archives, campus art, book reviews, news & events and more!

We shared all the ups and downs of implementing our iPads, Kindles, Nooks & eDevices in the early years of the new technology at that time, [2009]. We also covered the numerous Professional Teaching & Learning Center's workshops and presentations in our Gallery.

The variety of library blogs helped students, faculty and staff become familiar with the Library Learning Resource Center, LLRC.  Students could monitor activities and events online and have the opportunity to attend these events. They would let us know their thoughts about various activities and they also shared their ideas with us.

Our Librarian/Associate Professors and Library Technicians have been posting news and other useful information on our other library Social Media sites including Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. This is a great way to keep in touch with all library related information.

Hispanic Month Alumni Spotlight October 2013

Hispanic Heritage Month Alumni Exhibit
Sept .15th – Oct. 15th
Palm Beach State College Library is putting on an exhibit at the library for Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept .15th – Oct. 15th). Since this year we are celebrating the College’s 80th Anniversary we have decided that we want to celebrate our Hispanic Heritage by portraying staff, faculty and alumni of Palm Beach State College that are of Hispanic Heritage.   If you are, or know of an alumni of Palm Beach State College that would like to be part of this exhibit, please contact Pat Alvarez at alvarezp@palmbeachstate.edu.   We need your name, picture, date of graduation from Palm Beach State, your ethnicity (country), what you are doing now and any accolades or degrees that you have received.   We feel that this exhibition could be a source of good role models for present Hispanic students.  They may be encouraged to strive for excellence when they see others like themselves that have gone through the same experiences.

Thanks to our terrific 'Library Archives Team' for their dedication and for all their industrious work these past 7 months. Enjoy scrolling through memory lane below.  You might like to visit our digital archive website and read more about the 80 year history of Palm Beach State College.

Here are some 'ole' pictures and a few historic pages from our college handbooks from the 1930's and 1940's that you might find very interesting!

Marie Reddy is retiring from LLRC after 33 years!

After 33 years working in the library at Palm Beach State Marie is retiring! Marie began her career in the Personnel Department.   She moved to Secretary to the Director of the library, and for a short period of time Marie was Supervisor of Circulation. These last several years she's been working in the Periodicals and Technical Services departments.

This past year she has been working diligently assisting Pat Alvarez in Periodicals sorting and publishing our college archives.  This is a vast collection with over 75 years of pictures, articles and mementos through all the changes from Palm Beach Junior College, Palm Beach Community College and now Palm Beach State.

A quote from Tabatha McDonald, President of AFC
"Marie is a valued and hard-working member of the AFC chapter.  She has contributed so much through the years, always going above and beyond the call of duty. Among her most notable work is her tireless efforts to make our Annual Book Sale a success.  This year we grossed almost $4,500, the largest amount ever, and collected more books than ever before. She also worked diligently for several years to coordinate our 'Paint Your Heart Out' community service project."

Marie's sons, Billy and Brian
Marie told us the Key West FACC trip was her favorite but the 'best' trip was the ALA meeting in Washington D.C. for the library.  She has worked the book sale for the last 10 years, she was the FACC Chapter Secretary and on the board for the Career and Professional Commission.

We asked Marie what she was looking forward to in retirement.  She would like to travel, having lunch with her friends that still work and it sounds like she might be coming back to help with the Annual Book Sale next April.

What will you do on your first day off?
"I’m going to sleep late and then go out to lunch with whoever I can get to go with me!"

Marie, we will miss your sense of humor and big smile!
Retirement will certainly become one 'big' fun adventure for you!!!

We will be adding more pictures in two weeks!
