Stone Garden
The garden is on the West side of the LLRC-Library

J. Patrick Lannan was a wealthy financier who accumulated more than 5,000 pieces of contemporary painting and sculpture during his lifetime. Lannan died in 1983 at the age of 78 and the first major gift donated by his foundation was to Palm Beach Junior College.

Four works, made of Maine marble by three artists, were installed on the Lake Worth campus over the summer and fall of 1986. The J. Patrick Lannan Sculpture Garden, as it became known, was designed by Miami-based architect Mark Hampton.

The piece suspended from the crane is by Japanese sculptor Yassur Mizui, titled "L'echo du Rive." It is 7' 8" high and six feet wide and weighs over 10 tons.

In the foreground is part of a composite called "Wir sind noch keine menschen im humanistichen sinne" (translated as "We are not yet human in the spirit of humanity.") The sculpture, made up of 16 pieces weighing 15 tons, is by German sculptor Erich Reischke.

  1. Hi Colleen! Thanks for sharing and recording all this. That looks like Reuben Hale on the left in your first photo. Do you know who the man on the right is? Maybe Mark Hampton? Thanks. -Amelia
